Panasonic MZW984: OLED TVs with gaming functions are smart and support Filmmaker mode

Panasonic has introduced new OLED screens. These should not only be suitable for playing films and series, but also for playing games. The televisions should support high brightness.

Panasonic has introduced several new televisions. Specifically, these are OLED televisions, which should not only impress with high brightness, but also with the high contrast that is typical of OLEDs. Currently, the manufacturer has left it with a rather general announcement, so detailed data sheets are not yet available.

Not surprisingly, all MZW984 models are 4K panels and can therefore also stage high-resolution source material appropriately. Panasonic also advertises the improved Filmmaker mode. This should make it possible to experience films exactly as they were conceived by the director. An ambient light sensor is present and is supposed to adjust the image depending on the color temperature and the brightness of the environment. According to the manufacturer’s information, even the color changes caused by light reflections can be corrected for dark image content.

Theater Surround Pro should enable convincing sound even without a soundbar or loudspeakers, Dolby Atmos should be supported. The TVs of the Panasonic MZW984 series should also be suitable for video games, so a refresh rate of 120 Hz is supported, Panasonic also advertises the low input lag and also the VRR and AMD FreeSync Premium support. There is also a special game mode for first-person shooters, which is supposed to make it easier to locate opponents using surround sound.

As smart TVs, the MZW984 models also support playback from various streaming service providers. Features for the visually impaired are available. The MZW984 will be available from August with 42, 48, 55 and 65 inches, prices range from 1,899 euros to 3,199 euros.

Saxxy Awards 2015 – this was the best Source Filmmaker video this year

Once again this year, Valve handed out prizes for the best Source Filmmaker videos, of which a brilliant Team Fortress 2 work was the absolute winner.

Valve famously made good promotional videos for its games, just remember the “Meet The…” series, which was used to establish the backstory of Team Fortress 2’s characters. Since then, the baton has been handed over to the community, who can now not only create trailers for official updates, but also collect prizes.

This year, the brilliantly named Saxxy Awards were awarded to the best Source Filmmakers for the fifth time, and this year, of course, Team Fortress 2 works were also included. The only category where a Dota 2 video could win was best drama, the winners of best action, comedy, short and long video were all TF2 works. The absolute winner was Dunkle’s video, the excellently successful Turbulence, which included his own voice acting and, of course, plenty of his own character models in addition to jokes and flawless action scenes. It might be worth taking a look at the other winning and nominated videos as well, you can find them on this year’s Saxxy Awards website.

We still have a lot to tell you, you can find everything interesting here!
