Assassin’s Creed Origins – Shards of A Star Farming Guide (Scorpion Locations)

Shards of a Star are a new high rank crafting material in Assassin’s Creed Origins. You need it to get all the equipment upgrades in Curse of The Pharaohs to be able to do. Unfortunately, there’s no quick and easy way to earn enough of this resource – you’ll have to farm for a while to get all the Shards of a Star you need to afford the great upgrades. Read on to find out what jobs in AC Origins is particularly good for farming Shards of a Star suitable.

How to get Shards of a Star

If you need Shards, you should hunt down either the Giant Scorpions (they drop two) or the Pharaoh’s Shadows (which drop three). One of the best methods currently (and my favorite) is to go to the Royal Palace in the south of Aten and kill the three scorpions that are there. Once you’ve done that, you can simply open the quest menu and use the “Reload quest objective” option to have them magically respawn.

If this seems too tedious for you, you can also go to Aaru and ride around in the fields there. You can kill a lot of scorpions there before you have to reload the objective, but there is more time between groups, so it takes a little longer.

Assassin’s Creed Origins – resources, animal goods and their location

Manufacturing materials and still animal goods are the central resources you will need to look for in Assassin’s Creed Origins.

On this page, we will explain everything you need to know about them, including some tips for finding each resource.

For more information on AC: Origins, be sure to visit our Assassin’s Creed Origins Guide and Walkthrough where we have compiled everything we know so far.

Manufacturing materials and animal goods – how to obtain resources in Assassin’s Creed Origins

There are eight types of resources available in Origins. One, Silica, is related to the mysterious mechanisms of the tombs, but the remaining seven are used to improve your equipment. You will occasionally find some in a random box or in a jar, but the only safe way to collect them is by going directly to their source; therefore, here is our guide on where to look for them.

Cedarwood: It will probably get to the point where you will have this item in large quantities since most weapons will produce it as soon as it is dismantled, but it can also be obtained from soldiers – use Senu for reconnaissance and look for it as you move around.

Bronze: Another common result of disassembling equipment that you do not intend, can also be obtained in the same way as Cedarwood.

Soft Leather: Wild goats, hyenas and antelopes are all sources of this material, but the antelopes give you once again that each of them corresponds to four. You can usually find them in places with trees close to the water, but you can also find the smaller herds inside the land; you need to sneak up on them and eliminate them with the bow – we recommend a lighter bow instead of the hunting bow as it is faster and you will be able to discharge more arrows on the group of animals if they start to disperse. Goats can be found on rocky terrain close to villages and hyenas will usually circulate in drier and sandy areas – around the pyramids of Giza is a good place to look.

Hard Leather: Crocodiles and hippos, when eliminated, provide you with this item, although hippos tend to give more than crocodiles. Both can be found in the shallow waters and swampy areas to the east, particularly Memphis and Krokodilopolis (what a surprise). They won’t be defeated without a fight, but hippos are a little easier to deal with – use a weapon with a bleeding effect or poison, approach them from the back and attack hard, always being careful to stay away from the head from them.

Pelts: These come from lions and leopards, and you can find these fierce predators close to groups remote from their prey – if you are far enough away from civilization, in the areas where antelopes are found, you will also find lions. Large concentrations of your enemies may have one or two in captivity.

Iron: See Cedarwood and Bronze.

Carbon Crystal: Obtained only through chests in enemy fields – the more spears the icon of a particular enemy concentration has, the greater your chances of finding this item. This is the rarest material in the game, so you’ll have to be thorough in your search.

Various animals: You can also hunt vultures, flamingos and herons. They will not give you any manufacturing material but you can check if they have any items that you can sell. Vultures can be found in more arid regions and are usually located close to hyenas. Flamingos and herons can be found almost anywhere with water.

With that said, the quickest way to locate any of the resources is to use Senu high in the sky; the landscape will gradually be filled with icons that indicate what you can find in a specific place; so you can signal what you want and follow that direction.

Finally, the Buy Materials skill in the Seer tree can be quite useful. Blacksmiths will sell iron, bronze and wood while tailors will sell leather and furs. They are not cheap and usually have few in stock, and are probably not the best option for obtaining these materials; however, if you only need one or two, they save you a lot of work.

Assassin’s Creed Origins – location of the Phylakes and how to obtain the legendary Black Hood outfit

Phylakes’ Prey it is a slightly mysterious quest that you will find after passing a good part of the story of Assassin’s Creed Origins, and it offers very interesting rewards for those who complete them.

On this page, we will detail everything you need to know about Phylakes, including how to get the Black Hood reward, the ten Phylake locations, and more.

For more information on this game, don’t forget to take a look at our Assassin’s Creed Origins Guide and Walkthrough.

Phylakes’ Prey, the location of Phylakes locations and how to get Black Hood clothing

After completing the Gennadios the Phylakitai story quest, you will have 10 Phylakes, elite high-level warriors, behind you. The best tactic to deal with them is to avoid them; however, once you reach level 20, you will be strong enough to defeat them; the Outsider patrolling Alexandria is the best place to start and as you level up, you can take on the rest.

(The paths of Iron Bull and The Galatian cross occasionally; either you expect them to split up or try to simply face one when they are together – fighting both simultaneously is not a good decision).

Name Localization Level Loot
The Outsider Alexandria 20 Golden Wolf (normal sword)
Ptolemy’s Fist Sap-Meh Name 22 Copper Mace
The Iron Ram Ineb-Hedjet Name 25 Smoke and Mirrors (predator arc)
The Stranger Memphis 28 Ornamented key, Sarissa (Egyptian sword)
Ra’s Mercy Faiyum 30 Storm Blades (double swords)
The Hill Faiyum Oasis 32 Ornamented key, Headsplitter
Bane of Hathor Atef-Petu Name 35 Deathstorm (hunter bow)
Half Horn Im-Kent First Name 38 Ornamented key, Composite Bow
The Iron Bull Giza, Isolated Desert 40 Djoser’s Pride (shield)
The Galatian Isolated Desert 40 Ornamented key, The Fourth Plague (warrior bow)

We suggest that you battle everyone on horseback and start the fight by doing as much damage from a distance as you can; bows that inflict damage over time with Bleed, Fire, or Poison are ideal for shooting at your target, weakening it, and shooting again. If you have suffered a lot of damage you can try to hide as far as you can in order to regain your health but always taking care not to get too far from your enemy or he will also recover his health.

If you don’t have ammo, you’ll have to defeat them in physical combat, but staying on horseback means you can literally make circles around you – keep attacking while orbiting around and there’s a good chance you’ll be able to defeat it without having to been hit only once.

Mysterious Card and how to get the Black Hood outfit

Once you’ve killed all 10, the last one will drop a mysterious card:

Abar refuses to give the last key. She takes care of simple tasks in that pathetic fishing village to the east of Herakleion, telling the children stories of her past glories. Of course, I could easily steal the key from her, but she deserves the respect that a war leader is given. I will try to talk to her again since I know that we all want to see this “great treasure” that she has. I will keep you informed.

Head to Yw Huts on the eastern islands of Heraklion, use Senu to pinpoint Abar’s location and then talk to her – depending on the time of day, she’ll be sleeping in one of the huts or going around the village.

It will give you the mission to kill some crocodiles that are nearby and that have terrified the village (there are at least half a dozen crocodiles, many of them at level 40, which will not be an easy task), and when you return victorious she it will give you the location of a chest nearby which contains the legendary Black Hood outfit.
