[HOT] : Xbox Games Showcase – Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II Shows Up

Senua’s Saga Hellblade 2 made a dent at the Xbox Games Showcase to unveil a new trailer and specify its release date.

Starfield is on everyone’s lips. And for good reason, the first new Bethesda license in decades will be one of the big Xbox Series exclusives of the year. After the debacle of Redfall, the famous “Skyrim in space” is particularly expected at the turn. However, other house productions should stand out this year. Hellblade 2 certainly does not have the same aura, but with a strong first episode, the sequel also promises to be a must-have for the console. Ninja Theory has been keeping a low profile lately, and it was pretty much a given that Senua’s epic would be one of the stars of the Xbox Games Showcase. However, we were almost expecting Senua’s Saga Hellblade 2 during the Summer Game Fest 2023 conference, but we had to wait until Microsoft’s conference.

Hellblade 2 misses its release this year

A demo and then goes away. Announced with fanfare at the 2019 Game Awards, Hellblade 2 was particularly discreet. Covid 19 had a definite impact on the development of the game and Ninja Theory moved away from its usual communication model. Where the studio liked to share its progress through numerous developer diaries with its previous production, its Xbox Series exclusivity was walled in disconcerting silence. She nevertheless made a remarkable appearance at the Epic Games conference devoted to the Unreal Engine 5. The least we can say is that it was stunning. But a tech demo doesn’t equal an actual trailer or gameplay. And luckily, Xbox didn’t come with their hands in their pockets to Summer Game Fest 2023.

The publisher bet everything on its own conference and Senua’s Saga Hellblade 2 made a very noticeable appearance there. The long-awaited sequel was shown for the time of a trailer once again serving as a technical demo. No gameplay, but images with real-time rendering and a sound design that once again promises to be completely crazy. Enough to make players’ mouths water, but it will take a little patience. Hellblade 2 will not be released this year after all. The game is scheduled for 2024, at an as yet undetermined date with again day one availability on Xbox Game Pass.

[HOT] : Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II delivers gameplay trailer

A crazy thing under Unreal Engine 5

Since 2021 and the furious combat trailer leaked at The Game Awards, we haven’t had much to spend on Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. The scarcity therefore ended during the Xbox Showcase 2023, with a new gameplay trailer delivered by the English studio Ninja Theory.

The Ninja Theorists did not do things by halves, since no less than four minutes of gameplay images were revealed. In Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, we will therefore find the Pictish warrior Senua, heroine of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice still struggling with her demons, both interior and exterior. The sequence, captured here on Series X, is intended to be more intimate than the previous images already broadcast, which gave pride of place to the dueling talents of the heroine.

AAA Psychoanalysis

The least we can say is that Ninja Theory has done everything to impress us. The modeling of German actress Melina Juergens seems to have taken a new step towards photorealism. Which only reinforces the ambient unease when the sets begin to spin and distort, testifying to the more than fragile mental state of the protagonist. It must be said that in the first part of her adventures, the warrior still had to undertake a hellish journey to the lands of Hel, the Goddess of Death to try to bring her companion back to life. And this while her mental state was already hanging by a thread, since she presented psychotic symptoms. In this second opus, Senua returns to service, this time in Iceland and revives with his old demons.

If the graphic aspect is clearly one of the strengths of the trailer, it would be inappropriate not to mention the enormous work done on the sound (we also suggest that you watch the trailer below with headphones to fill your ears). Hellblade 1 had been a masterclass in the matter, and the English studio seems to have pushed the cursor even further. Hearing the voices coming from all sides is unspeakable anguish… Which only reinforces even more the expectation that we have to finally be able to return to the land of madness. We will have to wait until 2024 to take up arms again on PC and Xbox Series with Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. Ninja Theory title will arrive day one in game pass.
