How much time has passed in the world of One Piece since the series began? The adventures of the Straw Hats have been faster than it seems

With 25 years behind him, many One Piece fans have grown up with the work of Eiichiro Oda since the first arcs of the series. Both the anime and the manga have exceeded a thousand chapters, but what not many know is that within the world of One Piece, the time that has passed since the beginning of Luffy’s journey has been less than many believe.

And although there is no official article that establishes the number of days or weeks that have passed since the beginning of the Straw Hat crew, community has been responsible for offering an almost exact estimate of the real duration of each arc within the world of the series.

In total, Luffy has been on adventures around 2 years and 11 monthsincluding, obviously, the Time Skip which occurred once the Marineford War ended and which constitutes the 3D2Y arc, at which time Luffy decides to train hard with Rayleigh to enter the New World with more power.

To give you an idea, before the time jumpthe crew was 9 months traveling from Villa Syrup to the Sabaody archipelago. After the time jump training, the Straw Hats have been a little less than a month together despite everything that happened in places like Dressrosa or Wano, arcs that have taken years to conclude. Below, we leave you a list of the time that has passed in each arc of One Piece.

After more than a year and 61 episodes, the longest fight in anime history has concluded with a happy ending. Luffy is still unbeatable in One Piece

Warning: Spoilers for the last episode of the One Piece anime

On September 17, the last chapter of a confrontation that has made history in anime was finally broadcast: the confrontation between Luffy and Kaido. Over the past few weeks, One Piece fans have gone absolutely crazy watching Luffy’s new transformation, along with totally stunning animation and an exceptional ending.

And, in addition to making history in the anime industry for its epicness, it also made history for the number of episodes: 61 episodes spread over 1 year, 4 months and 23 days. To give you an idea, this fight has lasted longer than high-caliber works like Fullmetal Alchemist, the entire arc of the chuunin exams in Naruto and even longer than Goku’s endless fight against Frieza in Dragon Ball Z.

Until now, the record for the longest fight in anime history was also held by One Piece, but instead of Kaido, Luffy had to face off against Katakurione of the most formidable enemies the Straw Hat has faced and which lasted more than 20 chapters in the anime.

Of course, One Piece wants to postulate itself as one of the most legendary works in history, both in Japan and in the West, since in addition to being the best-selling manga of all time, it is the most successful book saga in history, surpassing a titan like Harry Potter. We don’t know if we will see a fight of this caliber again, but we are sure that over the next few years we will see duels and battles that we will remember forever.

The most ridiculous controversy of ‘One Piece’ has come neither because of the CGI nor the fidelity to the anime, it has been the canary Sanji of Taz Skylar: “When I was little I never heard anyone with my accent on TV”

There were many “buts” to take away from the live action series of ‘One Piece’. And even before the premiere, there were complaints that if Luffy was not wearing flip-flops, and once the rhythm changes were released, CGI that is not entirely convincing, or the scissors, some characters have not liked everyone.

But the controversy that we definitely did not see coming was that of the Canarian accent of Sanji in the Spanish version of ‘One Piece’.

Sanji is not from the North Blue, he is from Tenerife

taz skylar he plays the Straw Hats’ cook in the Netflix version. And although we are more used to hearing him in promos and trailers with his British accent He speaks Spanish perfectly because he was born and grew up in the Canary Islands, in Tenerife. He is the son of a Sierra Leonean-Lebanese and an English woman, he has dual British and Spanish nationality, and in the Spanish dubbing of ‘One Piece’ he has dubbed himself.

The controversy in networks has come about because while the rest of the voices have a neutral accent, Skylar hasn’t changed her accent to dub and now Sanji has a canary accent. And in the child’s version of him the dubbing actress has dubbed him Carla Ravelowho has also kept his Canarian accent so that there is consistency with the character’s voice.

Some criticism has come towards the quality of dubbing, because in the end Skylar is a professional dubber and it shows that he has recorded in a different studio. And so far so good because many times the dubbing of actors and inexperienced dubbing can take you completely out of the movie or series on duty. But a part of the complaints criticized his accent itself and how he “bumped” too much with the rest of the voices.

Fiction dubbing tends to be more neutral and we end up forgetting about it. the variety of accents so rich that we have in Spain… so many times, unless it’s to do the ___ on duty, we hear too much diversity. Because at the time, with the dubbing of the anime of ‘One Piece’, well that Usopp is called “Usuf” and had an Arabic accent to put jokes, but that’s good that it is still remembered with affection and nostalgia.

The good part is that in the end the “canary sanji“has ended up winning the vast majority of ‘One Piece’ fans (accompanying with memes, fanart and “explanations” that Sanji sounds like that because he is from another ocean) to celebrate that the canary accent is reaching so many people. And In the end, the controversy has ended up reaching Taz Skylar himself, who has made it clear that he is very proud to represent the canaries with his accent.

“As a kid I never heard anyone with my accent on TV,” Skylar wrote on X (Twitter). “I thank everyone who supported the dubbing and I look forward to hearing more voices from more places throughout my life being represented.”

So perhaps from the Canary Sanji it will begin to normalize being able to hear more different accents in dubbing, and that it won’t “shock” us so much when suddenly one slips into a series.

The decision about Sanji in the Spanish dubbing of the One Piece live action that has completely divided the community. Taz Skylar’s Big Problem Isn’t His Accent

Netflix has given birth to one of its most ambitious projects to date, if not the most ambitious in terms of historical budget: one piece. The one in the work created by Eiichiro Oda has captivated all those who have seen it thanks to the enormous care put into each scene, although not all decisions have been successful.

It turns out that for the dubbing of Sanji in Spanish and Castilianthe voice actor chosen to playTaz Skylar has been Taz Skylar himself. You may not know him, but the actor is of Canarian origin, so everything points to Netflix letting him dub himself in the Spanish versions of the series, just like Iñaki Godoy does with the Latin American dubbing.

The result, unfortunately, doesn’t quite fit in with the rest of the voice actors, since unlike the other characters, it seems that his dubbing was done in a completely different place where the audio quality is inferior. This, as expected, has not entirely convinced many fans, although there are also a fair number of them who are in favor of Skylar as Sanji’s voice actor.

While it is true that One Piece has become one of the most entertaining series of the year on Netflix, it is also necessary to recognize the mistake that Spanish-speaking distributors have made in this decision, since a professional voice actor he would have fit the dubbed versions of the character much better.

It should also be noted that the True problem of this specific dubbing it’s not the accent per se; without going any further, the young version of Sanji also has a canary accent, but it is quite noticeable that he is a professional voice actor and it fits perfectly with the tonality of the series. It will be necessary to see if this changes in the face of possible seasons, but it is likely that everything will remain the same given the circumstances of the agreement that Netflix has with its actors.
