MISCELLANEOUS EVENTS – A knife found on site and a swastika engraved on the door. These are the main elements from which investigators are working, this Sunday, November 5, the day after the attack on a young woman of the Jewish faith in Lyon.
Stabbed twice in the stomach, the latter was able to leave Édouard-Herriot hospital this Sunday, according to her lawyer Stéphane Drai, who specifies that her injuries “ need stitches ». His vital prognosis was not compromised.
The young woman, aged 30, according to Progress, shared a message on social media saying: ” I’m doing well ” reports BFMTV. The thirty-year-old says above all that she wishes “No one is found and they don’t attack anyone else. »
The victim’s account of the attack
According to the victim’s account, her attacker came to knock on her door, on the seventh floor of a building in the 3rd arrondissement of Lyon, this Saturday, November 4 around 1 p.m. After sending him a ” Good morning ” the man, dressed in black and with his face partially covered, rushed at her and stabbed her twice before fleeing.
The young woman was alone at home and quickly made contact with her cousin. On site, the victim’s relatives noticed that a swastika had been engraved on his door. For the moment, the judicial police have not been able to identify when the symbol was sprayed.
No hypothesis has been ruled out at this time.
At this stage and in the absence of witnesses, investigators remain very cautious and do not rule out any hypothesis. The knife used in the attack is currently being analyzed by police.
“The initial findings led the Lyon public prosecutor’s office to open an investigation into attempted homicide aggravated by the fact that the act could be motivated by an anti-Semitic motive”indicated the Lyon prosecutor’s office, in a context of tensions linked to the war between Israel and Hamas.
According to Me Stéphane Drai, the victim is currently experiencing a context of “ divorce ” but she did not know her attacker. “The judicial police will carry out their investigation and, depending on that, we will corroborate the anti-Semitic character or not,” he added.
» The family was known as a family of the Israelite faith”, notably specified the victim’s lawyer. According to Lyon News, “a mezuzah, an object of Jewish worship, was placed on the door.” The victim filed a complaint while she was still hospitalized, said Me Stéphane Drai.
A forensic analysis was ordered to definitively exclude any hypothesis of self-harm.
The cry of caution
The Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France (Crif) Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes condemns “ firmly aggression »calling ” to both reason and prudence” regarding its potentially anti-Semitic character.
The announcement of the attack sparked numerous reactions and condemnations, notably from political leaders, as well as the diocese of Lyon and the rector of the Lyon mosque.
