Dying Light 2 technical issue on PS5 and Xbox Series (ray tracing, 60fps…)

Barring a last-minute glitch – randomly, related to the pandemic – you can finally get your hands on Dying Light 2: Stay Human, starting December 7, 2021 on consoles and PC. And for owners of a PS5, Xbox Series X or Sor a computerit will be more beautiful or more fluid.

In an interview at MP1st, Piotr Pawlaczyklevel designer at Techland, the ray tracing available with the “Quality” mode will for example be of great importance:

We are developing several options for next-gen consoles. For those who prefer visuals, we’ve built a Quality mode that uses ray tracing to dramatically improve scene quality, with a focus on ambient lighting. In this mode, players will find more accurate volumetric effectsAnd many other image post-processing elements. Ray tracing then serves as the basis for creating exact shadows.

For those, like you, who like fluiditywe concocted a “Performance” mode that focuses on a high framerate (60fps or even more with VRR activated), making gameplay mechanics like parkour or combat even smoother.

About the framerate which can exceed 60fps with the VRR option, it is currently reserved for Xbox Series and PCthere PS5 needing to be updatedperhaps by December, when Sony plans to release a patch for its TVs and potentially for its PlayStation 5.

When will DLC 2 be out? Dying Light 2?

Techland was scheduled to release DLC 2 of Dying Light 2 later in 2023, but at an undefined date, but it was anticipated that it would include a new story expansion, a new map, and new weapons.

Dying Light 2: Nightrunner Hideouts, Safe Zones and Sleeping

the Safe Zones in Dying Light 2 are retreats where Aiden – the name says it – is safe.

The game distinguishes between different places, each of which can also serve different purposes, but they have one thing in common: you find a place to stay and don’t have to fear attacks. There is also a player hideout where Aiden can store excess items.

In the following section you can read all about safe zones, nightrunner hideouts and their peculiarities.

Where to find safe zones

Upgrade the generators to unlock a Nightrunner hideout.

Look around with the binoculars and you will discover all the many locations, some of which are or can become security zones.

This affects the following locations:

  • Nightrunner HideoutsMission: These are small shelters that require you to turn on a generator to secure the area. A UV light turns on and you can stay overnight in these places. You can find Nightrunner hideouts in many places: for example on roofs, in old buses or in buildings.
  • metro stations: There are nine subway stations in Dying Light 2 that not only serve for fast travel but also provide overnight accommodation once you unlock them.
  • wind turbines: The 17 wind turbines in Dying Light 2 can be climbed and activated, after which the faction active in the area will send their people there. An activated wind turbine then also offers overnight accommodation including a safety zone.
  • bandit camps: You can free and conquer the four bandit camps in Dying Light 2 from the scoundrels who live there. Afterwards, peaceful people settle down there and you have an opportunity to spend the night.
  • buildings and facilities: There are several water and substations in the city that you can assign to the two factions of Peacekeeper and Survivor. It doesn’t matter to whom you give the building, in the end you always have a safety zone with a night’s camp unlocked.
  • Large Settlements: The three main settlements in the game – Bazaar, Fisheye Canteen, PK Fortress – are also safe zones with roosts. No opponent can follow you there.
  • small settlements: On the world map you keep stumbling upon smaller settlements such as pumpkin farms, a bakery, a trading post and so on. There you can trade occasionally and there is UV light for protection at night but usually no bed to sleep on.

In the small settlements there is at least UV light to survive the night and the occasional trader.

Map of the Nightrunner hideouts

The Nightrunner Hideouts are the first and most fundamental safe zones you come across in the free open world.

Here is a map with a variety of hiding spots you can find in Old Villedor (the upper part of town where the game starts):

Of course there are enough Nightrunner hiding places to be found in the central ring. Here are most of their locations so you always have a shelter for the dark nights:

Dying Light 2: military convoys and evacuation convoys with locations on the map

the Evacuation convoys and military convoys in Dying Light 2 are plunderable leftovers from a time when everything just went to the dogs.

The military may have tried their best to contain the situation and the collapse of civilization, but circumstances were against them and all we can find are a few convoys of heavily armored vehicles.

Find out the important details on the topic here Convoys in Dying Light 2.

What is the difference between military convoy and evacuation convoy?

There are hardly any differences. In both cases, you will come across abandoned vehicles that have seen much better days and are long gone.

A military convoy usually has tanks and other military vehicles, while evacuation convoys do not. Otherwise, the difference is the type of reward you get for looting the convoys.

  • military convoy: weapons, equipment and accessories
  • evacuation convoy: Valuable items, components and equipment

We see: In both cases it is worth stopping for a moment and cracking the car doors. You need lockpicks and you have to use them to gain access to the wrecked vehicles.

Use your Survival Sense to scan the environment to ensure you don’t miss a vehicle or loot.

Convoys in Old Villedor

On the following map we show you the locations of the convoys in Old Villedor, where the game starts (there are probably not all of them, so keep your eyes peeled):

Convoys in the central ring

On the following map we show you the locations of the convoys in the central ring, which you will reach later in the game (certainly not all of them, so keep your eyes open):

Dying Light 2 – Last Boss: How to defeat Waltz in the finale (X13 – Quest)

Waltz is the one Final boss in Dying Light 2. Aiden worked the whole game towards this moment and as part of the final story quest “X13” he finally meets his adversary.

The preparation for the final battle takes place much earlier, even before you reach the point of no return (the game warns you that by doing so you activate the epilogue).

Stock up on the following items before heading to the finale:

  • Enough weapons, but that goes without saying.
  • Medicine, in the best case with some upgrades, so that the healing effect is higher.
  • Regeneration Stimulant (heals a certain percentage per second) and Rage Stimulant (increases melee damage significantly) both make this fight a lot easier.
  • Upgrades the grappling hook to the point where it can pull enemies in.

Then, when you reach the final stage and face Waltz, you’ll have to survive a four-phase boss fight.

First phase

First you face Waltz on a round platform. Strike him in melee and dodge his fists when he hits you with them. Like this rhythm: hit, hit, dodge, hit, hit, dodge.

The stomps on the ground are fatal. One will see him jump in the air and smash his fist into the platform, creating a blast that will knock you off your feet and, in the worst case, throw you off the platform (in which case you’ll have to climb back up). Back away as far as possible when he starts to attack.

The other attack also smashes the ground, creating trails of sparks that shoot toward you. He repeats this several times, up to five or six times. Dodge these attacks to the side until Waltz is exhausted and particularly open to hits.

Also, don’t forget the grappling hook. With this you can occasionally throw him out of step and make him vulnerable to counter hits.

If he almost lost his energy bar, he goes into the second phase.

second phase

This phase takes place on the ground. There’s fog all around and Waltz will always flee and disappear for a moment.

The easiest tactic here would be to stay in the middle and wait for Waltz to charge at Aiden. Then dodge, land a few hits, and so on.

You can also track the guy through the fog, but be careful with the chemical zones on the edges that will hurt you. Waiting and reacting better, it’s less nerve-wracking.

third phase

Use the vents to paraglide up and fight Waltz on the higher platforms.

His tactics in combat aren’t really different, mostly paying attention to the power attacks (which can’t be blocked). Every once in a while you might fall down and have to get back up.

Also, Waltz likes to change platforms, so follow him when the time comes. In close combat, always stay close and dodge when he hits, then you can also manage this phase.

fourth phase

Aiden gains superhuman strength and can jump meters far and meters high. It should be easy to track Waltz in that condition.

Stay close on his heels and use Aiden’s bare hands/claws to tear the guy apart.

Waltz takes extreme damage during this phase and it shouldn’t take you long to take him down once and for all. Stay with him and after a short while you’ll have defeated Waltz.

That was it with the final boss. Now you face the final decision that will affect the outcome of Dying Light 2. I wish you success.
