Rumor: Apple is testing a stripped-down version of macOS on iPad Pro with M2

The next version of macOS could be released on the new iPad Pro, shown the other day. This is evidenced by a leak posted on Twitter by a person under the nickname Majin Bu.

According to him, the upcoming macOS 14 is being developed under the code name Mendocino. It will be exclusive to the iPad Pro on Apple M2.

He claims that the interface is about 25% larger than the interface on Macs. This is logical: it is more convenient to use the touch screen.

It’s logical to assume that with the release of macOS the iPad Pro would be able to run desktop apps. But, according to Majin Bu, this is not so: the operating system is macOS, and the applications are iPad. Why, in this case, transfer the iPad to macOS is absolutely unclear.

In general, rumors that Apple is making a special version of macOS for the iPad have been circulating almost since the launch of the iPad in 2010. But somehow it doesn’t work.

On the other hand, now the implementation of such a story is quite a logical step, because Apple is gradually starting to promote iPadOS as an appendage to macOS, and not to iOS. On the other hand, two paragraphs later, I still can’t understand why you need a stripped-down version of macOS to run iPadOS apps. For what?

Should you trust Majin Bu?

This insider doesn’t have the greatest track record. A year ago, he published photographs and screenshots of cases for the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro, which had not yet been released at that time. And this leak turned out to be as accurate as possible:

On the other hand, he could talk about a feature that Apple is actually testing. However, it is not a fact that it will ever be implemented.

It is likely that macOS Mendocino will be discussed at the next WWDC conference, which will open in June 2023.

Rumor: Codemasters is putting the DiRT series on hold for the time being and focusing on WRC games

In 2020 it was announced that Codemasters had obtained the official WRC license for the period from 2023 to 2027. This means that from next year the developer will be the only studio to make officially licensed WRC games. When that agreement was announced, Codemasters indicated that it would not be at the expense of the well-known DiRT franchise. The studio said it remained committed to DiRT and even reported that the team behind the DiRT Rally games was already working on a new part at the time. Now this seems to be turning out differently.

Insider Tom Henderson reports namely that Codemasters is now fully focused on its first WRC game when it comes to rally games. DiRT Rally 3 was indeed in development, but according to Henderson was scrapped at the end of last year. In fact, it seems that the entire DiRT series has been put on hold for the time being. Codemasters will focus on nothing but F1, GRID and WRC for the foreseeable future, Henderson said.

Henderson relies on his sources, but there are already concrete indications that point in the same direction. EA, which acquired Codemasters early last year, has it official Twitter account of the DiRT games have changed their name. The account is now simply called “EA SPORTS Rally,” which also seems to suggest that the focus is no longer on DiRT.

In short: enough indications that we will hear little or nothing from the DiRT games in the coming years and that Codemasters will fully focus on WRC, now that the license is in the hands of Codemasters. Of course, Henderson’s report has not been confirmed, so consider it a rumor for now. It’s not yet known when Codemasters’ new WRC game will be officially announced, but it’s likely to be released next year, when the license will officially go to Codemasters.

Rumor: Codemasters’ new WRC game lets you build your own car

In recent years, Kylotonn Racing with publisher Nacon has provided us with official rally games, but that will change next year. Codemasters has the license back and that means we can expect a new official WRC game from them.

The game hasn’t been announced yet, so we don’t have any official details yet. Unless we can assume new information from insider Tom Henderson. He writes in a new message Insider Gaming that the new game has a unique feature: the ability to build your own car.

As a player you can build your car from the ground up, choosing which parts of which brands you want to use. This would be very in-depth, similar to the video below. This would also have an in-game currency tied to it, which must equate to a long in-game grind.

As soon as you build a car, you will have the opportunity to test drive your build before actually purchasing specific parts. You will also be able to design your car in terms of livery from A to Z to your own taste.

Rumor: Bloodborne PC port canceled after weak Horizon port

Ever since Sony started releasing their exclusive titles on PC as well, calls for a port of Bloodborne have been heard here and there. FromSoftware’s love letter to HP Lovecraft was an absolute hit on the PlayStation 4, but remained painfully unplayable for fans of the Dark Souls games on other platforms.

There is no change for now. According to Twitch user BaityBait however, a PC port of Bloodborne was ever planned. Developer Virtuos was originally supposed to take care of this, but did such a weak job with the Horizon: Zero Dawn port that Guerrilla Games had to get involved.

Consequently Sony would have played it safe by throwing the Bloodborne port in the nearest garbage can. This is a rumor, so take it with a grain of salt, but it could very well be true. Hopefully Sony will try again soon with another, better placed studio.

We are now a few months further and the so far very reliable leaker takes it a step further and reports that the rally game is called WRC 23 and will be released on July 28.

If everything is true, which it is starting to look like, we will be able to give our inner rally driver back control of the wheel as early as this summer. Now that Codemasters has the official rally license from 2023 to 2027, we can undoubtedly expect a new part in the rally series every year.
