Baldur’s Gate 3: Should You Pick an Origin or a Custom…

When you start playing Baldur’s Gate 3, you’re faced with a big decision early on in character creation: do you want to create your own custom character or play as an Origin character? Here’s a guide to explain the difference between stock and custom characters in BG3, and our recommendation for which to choose.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has one of the most overwhelming character creation menus we’ve ever seen (you can even choose your genitals). But before you can choose your race, class, or background, the game confronts you with a pretty big decision: you have to decide between playing as a “custom” or “original” character.

We’ve outlined the differences between stock and custom characters below, along with recommendations. for you to play on. But at the end of the day, remember that neither is a bad choice, and there’s plenty of fun to be had with Custom and Origin characters.

Note: We won’t discuss Dark Urge characters as they are kind of a hybrid between Origin and Custom, and they are not recommended for beginners.

The Difference Between Origin and Custom Characters in Baldur’s Gate 3

Original characters in Baldur’s Gate 3 have a fixed appearance and a pre-written story, while custom characters are entirely invented by the player. With custom characters, you can choose race, class, and background, as well as change the appearance of the character. Whereas with the original characters, you can’t decide anything about that or change the appearance of the character. You can respect the Origin character and change class later in the gamebut not during character creation.

“Why the hell would anyone play an Origin character,” you might be wondering. The only big advantage of stock characters over custom characters is that Original characters have a ton of bespoke dialogue options and unique quests, while custom characters follow the “standard narrative” From the game. Also, Origin characters are easy and fast because all the character creation has been done for you.

Should you choose a custom or stock character in BG3?

We think most players should choose a custom character, especially because you can collect Origin characters in your party along the way, but the only way to get a custom character is if you play one yourself. . So if you choose a custom character, you get the best of both worlds; you can enjoy customizing your own character, but you can also experience the stories of your original companions (albeit as a spectator).

There are, however, two notable exceptions. If you’re a brand new player, picking up an Origin character might be a good thing for you because it’s easier. An Origin character may also be preferable if you’re playing Baldur’s Gate 3 co-op with a friend, because in those situations you won’t feel and play like a “main character” anyway.

And There you go. A brief explanation of the difference between the two types of characters in Baldur’s Gate 3. Will you choose an Origin character or a Custom character?

Ragnarok Origin mini-boss spawn time

Are you bored of having to wait for a boss to appear? Do you wish there was a device that could tell you when a boss spawned in an area? In Ragnarok Origin, the developers have released a device that allows players to find out when a mini-boss has spawned. Along with the ability to find out when the boss will spawn, it contains useful information on loot and what you can do to increase your chances of getting rewards. Here’s everything you need to know about mini-boss spawn times in Ragnarok Origin.

Mini boss spawn time in Ragnarok Origin

Do you like knowing when a boss spawned or what the boss will drop in battle after you kill it? In Ragnarok Origin, you can use the Boss Radar feature which helps you track mini-bosses to determine when they will spawn. Unlike regular monsters which can appear between 10 minutes and 2 hours, these monsters appear for a short time. When do these monsters appear?

Mini-bosses usually appear 20 minutes after the announcement “Radar has identified this monster on this map, (monster name), will be renewed”. To use the boss radar feature, you need to access the channel called “Channel 1” which deals with mini-boss locations.

Differences between Mini Boss and MVP Boss

If you’re wondering what’s the difference between a mini-boss and an MPV boss, you’ve come to the right place. When using your boss radar, you may notice that mini-bosses are different as they are creatures that have boss protocol but are not MVPs. They come in small doses and can summon mobs.

Mini-bosses are also stronger than MVPs because they have abilities that surpass MVPs, have tons of health, and can pack a punch. If you plan on using the boss radar to locate a mini-boss, be aware that you are only allowed to use this feature twice per day. Make sure to only use it for monsters you really want to fight.

Skill tree for Stalker in Ragnarok Origin

Before we jump into building Stalker skills, we should talk about how you should distribute stats to this subclass. Focus your stat points on DEX, STR, and AGI with a slight increase in VIT. We advise trying to balance the three main stats while keeping the VIT at 25% of whatever you have invested in them.

Remember that to access the Stalker you must play the Thief class and choose Rogue when first leveling up. This will put you on the path to the Underground Stalker when you reach level 70.

Thief Skill Tree (1st Job)

  • Dual attack (Tier 10) – By leveling double attack to max, you get a 55% chance to hit your enemy again (cannot be critical) and if you have a katar equipped, your secondary weapon damage is increased by 20 %. This effect will only trigger if you have a knife type weapon equipped and the chance of Double Attack triggering is calculated separately for each hand. So if you use two knives instead of a knife and a crossbow, you’ll have a better chance of activating this passive attack.
  • Shield Dodge (Tier 5) – When you activate this skill, you gain a 10% chance to dodge enemy attacks and a 60 increase to Dodge for 5 seconds. Can be a great asset when surrounded by many enemies.
  • Tips Control (Tier 4) – A great AoE damage skill as it deals 180% + 200 neutral physical damage to 10 monsters within your range. Use it to clear waves of weak enemies that are building up around you.
  • Detoxify (no level) – You don’t need to spend a skill point for this skill as you will get it automatically. Detoxify is a classic debuff spell that removes poison effects on you and your teammates around you.
  • Increase dodge (level 10) – A passive skill that will permanently increase your ESCAPE by 30 and give you a 5% movement speed bonus.
  • Hidden (level 10) – Enter the hideout during which no enemy can spot you. You will not suffer any movement penalty and this skill will cost you 10 SP + 1 SP for every 17 seconds you are in the hideout.
  • reoffend (Tier 1) – A single point in Backslike allows you to quickly disengage and back up while gaining a 15% movement speed bonus for 10 seconds. Ideal for resetting in a fight that is not going in your favor.

Rogue Skill Tree (2nd Job)

  • sneak attack / raid shot (level 10) – This is a dual ability, which means it will display differently depending on whether you use a melee or ranged weapon with it. When using a dagger, you hit the target for 450% + 350 neutral physical damage with a 15% chance to drop 100 Eden Coins. If you use this skill with a crossbow, it will have the same effects, but they will only be applied through a projectile.
  • Crossbow Blade Mastery (level 10) – A passive skill that will give you +30 ATK when using Crossbow Blade and Knife. This weapon combo is central to this build, so it’s essential that you level up this passive skill.
  • Take off the helmet (level 3) – You have a 5% chance to remove the helmet from the target. Your chances are increased if you have high DEX and LUK attributes.
  • Stealth (level 5) – A passive skill that is activated after using the Concealment skill. It gives you a 25% movement speed bonus for 15 seconds.
  • Mighty Raid (Tier 5) – This passive skill gives your basic attacks a 10% chance to trigger a sneak attack or raid shot (depending on the weapon you are using).
  • Remove the coat (level 3) – You have a 5% chance to remove the target’s cloak. These chances are further increased by DEX and LUK.
  • Constrain (level 5) – When using this skill, you will freeze a target for 2 seconds and pull them towards you. This is perfect for a melee weapon combo.

Stalker Skill Tree (3rd Job)

  • counter-instinct (tier 5) – A dual skill that will work with both melee and ranged weapons. It gives you a 60% physical parry chance for 5 seconds.
  • remove armor (level 3) – You have a 5% chance to remove armor from the target for 15 seconds. Chances are increased when you have high DEX and LUK.
  • Shadow Seeker (level 5) – Enter a shadow state where you remain hidden even after attacking. This state lasts 17 seconds.
  • Ambush Attack (Tier 5) – This passive skill deals 10% bonus skill damage when used with melee or 15% bonus skill damage with a crossbow.
  • Delete weapon (Level 3) – Use this skill to get a 5% success rate in removing the enemy’s weapon. Your odds are higher the higher your DEX and LUK are.
  • Cunning (level 5) – Passive skill that gives double bonuses, depending on the form you are using. When using this skill in dagger form, you gain 15% more critical damage when there is more than one enemy around you. If you use it as a crossbow, it increases your physical damage by 10% + 1% for each ally near you.
  • Copy (level 3) – When using this skill, you can steal an ability from the enemy. At level 3, you can even steal MVP skills.

How to solve the labyrinth forest in Ragnarok Origin?

Forest maze is not your typical maze with many walls and passages. This one is based on small islands with a few teleports on each one.

Although it might not look like it, the Labyrinth Forest teleports have a system and once you figure it out you can go wherever you want. Here we will show you a step by step guide on how to get from the starting point to the F2 exit. Follow our guide carefully and you too can crack this Labyrinth in no time.

We’ll start by plotting the order of the islands in the F1 Maze Forest so you can follow our instructions closely. When you enter the F1 Labyrinth Forest, you start at island number 14, and the F2 Labyrinth Forest entrance you need to go to is on island number 3.

  1. From your first island, number 14, go to the left teleport which will take you to island 6.
  2. From Island 6, go to the bottom teleport and it will take you to Island 4.
  3. Once on Island 4, simply return to the portal you came out of and you will find yourself on Island 9.
  4. Once on island 9, go to the bottom teleport and it will take you to island 15.
  5. On island 15 go to the teleport on your right and you will land on island 5.
  6. On island 5, go to the top teleport and you will go to island 10.
  7. Once you are on Island 10, go back again to the same portal you came from and you will be on Island 2.
  8. Once on Island 2, return to the same portal you came out of and you will find yourself on Island 3.
  9. Once on Island 3, just go to the teleport on the left side and that’s the teleport to Labyrinth Forest 2.

There are of course other successful paths to Labyrinth Forest F2 but this is the one we found to be the shortest and most efficient.

Best Bard Skill Build in Ragnarok Origin

Bards in Origin of Ragnarok are your typical merry buddies whose primary weapon is their musical instruments. Even though this class doesn’t look that eager to fight, trust us that it can pack a punch if set up correctly.

When paired with dancers, bards can unleash their full potential, so if you’re looking to play a bard, try to have at least one dancer in your party. Keep in mind that these are mostly warriors who rely on their fast physical attacks to damage enemies and their musical AoE boosts to aid their allies. Enter and read the detailed skills on this subclass.

Skills for bards in Ragnarok Origin

Since bards are a subclass of archers, you will need to level up some skills in this part of the skill tree before moving on to the bard’s signature moves. Additionally, our Bard build naturally evolves into the Minstrel build, so we have some suggestions for that skill tree as well. Read on to find out what the damage-dealing Bard skill tree created for farming enemies should look like.

Archer Skill Build (1st job)

  • owl eye (level 10) – Permanently increases your Dexterity by 10. As it is your primary attribute, you also take bonus damage.
  • vulture eye (Level 10) – Your range is permanently increased by 10 when leveling up this passive. It’s never a bad idea to get as far away from your enemies as possible and in the Archer’s limited skill pool, this one should definitely be maxed out.
  • Dual machine gun (level 10) – When using this skill, you fire two arrows at a target simultaneously dealing 350% + 200 neutral physical damage.
  • Focus of Attention (level 10) – A temporary boost that increases your AGI and DEX by 10 for 4 minutes. Ideal when used in combination with Double Strafe.

Building Barding Skills (2nd Job)

  • Play to score (level 5) – You could say that this passive skill doesn’t do much on its own but does a lot when used with other skills. In short, it enhances other bard skills such as Idunn’s Apple, Bragi’s Poem, Assassin’s End, and Inharmonic Music by greatly enhancing their effects. That’s why it’s vital that all of these spells are maxed out.
  • Mastery of instruments (level 5) – This passive skill gives you 30 ATK and increases your proficiency with instrumental weapons. If you’re looking for a recommendation, a great choice would be Burning Passion Guitar.
  • Whistle (level 10) – One of the best support skills there is. When you use it, your allies have their DEF increased by 95% for 10 minutes. This skill alone makes Bard a great secondary support in the team.
  • Idunn’s Apple (Tier 10) – Another great support skill that heals your allies around you for 100% x ATK + 500 per second. The more allies around you, the less healing an ally receives. So if you only have one teammate next to you, they will receive a large amount of healing, but when you add a few more people, that healing will be spread out. The spell lasts 60 seconds.
  • Bis (level 5) – When you as a bard use a solo performance, this spell automatically triggers another solo performance which will be level 5. The new solo performance lasts 10 seconds.
  • inharmonic music (Level 5) – An AoE spell that deals 200% + 200 physical damage per second to enemies within your range and lasts for 1 minute.
  • fantastic music (Tier 5) – Another fantastic passive skill that allows you to generate a fantastic note every time you perform a solo performance. Each Fantasy Note lasts 10 seconds (max 5 stacks) and increases your healing bonus by 5% and your physical damage by 5%. An essential passive skill that boosts you considerably.
  • Poem by Bragi (Level 5) – Play music to reduce the global cooldown of nearby allies by 20%. This performance lasts 1 minute.

Note: As you can see, Bard’s skill build uses 50/40 skill points. This will be offset by only using 26/40 in the latest skill build, Minstrel (3rd Job).

Minstrel Skill Build (3rd Job)

  • homecoming song (Tier 1) – A single skill point spent here allows you to revive fallen allies and restore them to their feet with a heal for 20% x Max HP.
  • mastery of music (Level 10) – When you learn the Music Mastery passive skill, you increase your physical damage by 20% and reduce the cooldown of all skills by 10%.
  • deafening drum (Level 10) – Call your allies into battle by slamming the Wardrum increasing their Base ATK, MATK by 100, and Gear DEF and MDEF by 10% for 100 seconds.
  • Fantastic Rhapsody (Level 5) – A very demanding but very rewarding skill at the same time. When you play this Rhapsody you deal 1500% of your physical damage to surrounding enemies, but you can only use this skill when you have 5 stacked Fantasy Notes. That means you have to start your attacks with other solo performances and then unleash that powerful rhapsody at the end.

Stats for snipers in Ragnarok Origin

Before we get into Sniper skill development, we need to refer to stats. A general rule that we believe every sniper must follow is to divide their stat points into three stats: LUK, AGI and DEX. AGI and DEX should be the main ones with more points, but some of your points should also go to LUK.

Now let’s see which skills you should focus on in the skill tree.

Archer Skill Build (1st job)

  • Dual machine gun (level 10) – A basic spell for the early game that lets you fire 2 arrows at a target for 350% + 200 neutral physical damage. How fast you can shoot these arrows depends on your AGI stat. The higher the AGI, the faster you can shoot them.
  • owl eye (level 10) – Permanently increases your DEX by 10.
  • vulture eye (Level 10) – Permanently increases your range by 10. A must for any sniper build.
  • Focus of Attention (level 10) – Sharpens your mind and temporarily gives you more of your main stats, 10 DEX and 10 AGI. The bonus lasts 4 minutes.

Hunter Skill Building (2nd Job)

  • Mastery of Falconry (tier 1) – A passive skill that provides you with a Falcon companion who fights alongside you. Since it only takes one point to get the Falcon, it’s worth picking up this skill in almost any Hunter build.
  • scourge of the beast (level 10) – A passive skill that gives you 20% increased damage against bugs and bullies and 10% against all others. Great for grinding, especially if you’re targeting areas with Brutes/Bugs.
  • wind dance (level 10) – This skill is activated by both your normal attack and your strafing double attack. Once you build up a few stacks, it can fire many arrows at your enemy and deal 800% + 300 neutral physical damage.
  • steel crow (Tier 8) – Steel Crow greatly buffs your Falcon, increasing its Physical Damage by 160. Additionally, each time the Falcon attacks, it takes another damage boost equal to 80% of your ATK.
  • lightning beat (level 10) – This Falcon skill has both passive and active functionality. When you activate it, the Falcon can dive up to 10 enemies and deal heavy damage (gets bonuses from the Steel Crow skill). Passively, this gives your normal attack a 5% chance to trigger the active skill. Every 3 points of LUK increases this chance by 1%.
  • Detection (Tier 1) – A recon skill that sends your Falcon to reveal the area and detect invisible units.

Sniper Skill Building (3rd Job)

  • Sonic Blast (Tier 1) – When you activate Sonic Blast, you send your Falcon diving and marking the target, causing them to lose 16% of their defense. Dive deals 120% damage + Blitz Beat damage. Passively, this skill sends a Sonic Blast by default every 3 Blitz Beats triggered.
  • True view (Level 10) – Marks the target and increases your six main attributes by 5, CRI by 10, main weapon ATK by 20% and CRI.DAM by 10% for 2 minutes. Ideal to use at the start of a boss fight.
  • Arrow training (level 10) – Passive skill that increases your physical ATK by 100 and increases the damage of your consumable arrows by 15%.
  • Splintered Claw (level 8) – Adds a passive to your Falcon. Each time he attacks a unit, there is a chance he will critically hit it and increase his CRI.DMG by 21%. An additional effect your Falcon gets from the Steel Crow skill is improved by 160%.

Paladin Skill Build Ragnarok Origin

Paladin Stat Build Ragnarok Origin

When it comes to attribute building, this build will force you to go for STR and INT with more emphasis on STR. INT gives you increased magic damage, more Spell Points (SP), and a larger Spell Point pool, while STR stat boosts your physical melee and ranged attacks, inventory capacity maximum and LEAKAGE.

In our version, the physical attack as well as some powerful spells will be the focus and the weapon of choice will be the two-handed spear. It ties in closely with some of the spells in the build and if you don’t use the spear the whole strategy falls apart.

With that in mind, let’s go up and dive into building Paladin skills.

Swordsman Skill Building (1st Job)

These are the best skills to acquire when building a Grand Paladin.

  • To hit (Tier 5) – 220% + 100 neutral physical damage to a single target and a Skill Accuracy bonus of 8. When you level up your ASPD, this skill’s cooldown is shorter.
  • Increase recovery power (Level 10) – This passive skill causes your HP Recovery to increase to 50 + 1% of your Max HP every 10 seconds. Additionally, it increases your healing effects by 30% when using HP restore items. This is one of the first skills that slowly turns you into an unkillable beast.
  • Magnum Break (Level 10) – A powerful move that can knock back up to 10 enemies around you with a burst of fire that deals 250% + 100 physical fire damage. You also gain a bonus of 28 Skill Accuracy.
  • To provoke (level 10) – A taunt skill ideal for saving allies. You jump and taunt all nearby monsters to attack you. They will see their damage increased by 15% but their Defense will be reduced by 37% making them vulnerable to your DPS allies. The skill lasts 3 seconds, but your hatred multiplier towards provoked monsters will be increased by 250% for 7 seconds.
  • Endure (level 5) – Activates Endure status which gives you +5 magic defense for 22 seconds and unstoppable status while attacked. It can be combined with Provoke for a more effective monster wipe.

Crusader Skill Building (2nd Job)

  • Horse riding (Tier 1) – A passive skill that allows you to ride Grand Peco and increases your weight limit by 1000. Great upgrade for someone who will be carrying tough gear.
  • Faith (Level 10) – Faith increases your max HP by 3000 and gives you a damage shield that reduces Holy damage taken by 30%.
  • Demon’s Bane (level 10) – This passive skill improves your physical attack and physical defense by 20. Additionally, this bonus is increased to 50 for attack and defense when facing demons and undead.
  • the holy cross (level 10) – Holy Cross is one of your key building skills. It deals 380% holy physical damage when used and has a 30% chance to put a status of darkness on the attacked enemy. Damage is doubled if you have a two-handed spear equipped, so we recommend crafting one as soon as possible. The strength of this build is in this combo.
  • Spear Mastery (level 10) – It increases your physical attack by 40 when walking or by 10 when mounted.
  • Grand Cross (Level 10) – Summon a giant cross that deals AoE Holy damage to up to 10 enemies. In addition to physical attacks and magic attacks, the damage of this spell is also based on the % of your maximum HP. So if you want to leverage this spell more, tweak your stat choices a bit so they favor VIT.

Paladin Skill Building (3rd Job)

  • Spear Acceleration (Tier 9) – This support skill requires a spear equipped with buffs increasing your ASPD by 28%, CRI by 18, and FLEE by 18 for 2 minutes.
  • Glory to the Lord (level 10) – A powerful spell that is an MVP and miniboss troubleshooter. It deals 1400% holy physical damage to a single target, which is first slowed by 40% and then rooted. The downside is that it will cost you 40% of your SP.
  • battle song (level 10) – A passive support skill you can activate whenever you want that will have a 75% chance to give your allies one of the following random bonuses: Holy ATK +10%, Max HP +10% and All Attributes +5. As long as you keep this skill active, you will lose 1 SP per second.

You will get the Suspicious Pumpkin Lantern task as part of the Wraith Detective quest after saving a spirit in Prontera that was assaulted by the wraith. The task description will state that the specter has escaped to the north of the city. This is the tricky part because the spectrum is actually not north but south.

Once you have completed all the tasks mentioned above, the Suspicious Pumpkin Lantern task is complete.

Elon Musk said he would eat his hat if the ULA and Blue Origin rocket flew before 2024. There will be no need

The Elon Musk predictions They are not always fulfilled, but when they are, they save you a bad time.

In February 2018, Elon Musk made a powerful promise: if his main competitor’s Vulcan Centaur rocket flew before 2024, he would eat his hat with mustard. Six years later, hat digestion will not be necessary.

The origin of the promise

Like many of Musk’s promises and predictions, this one arose to correct a person who was criticizing one of his products: the Falcon Heavy. That person was Doug Ellison, an engineer with NASA’s Mars rover program.

According to Ellison, SpaceX’s most powerful rocket offered less specific impulse than NASA’s rockets. United Launch Alliance (ULA); except in its disposable version, which is more expensive than a high-end Atlas V.

Ellison had extracted the data from NASA’s launch vehicle performance website, but Musk replied that it was not accurate, since it referred to the Block 1 version of the Falcon Heavy instead of the current Block 5.

“Even if they were accurate, a fully expendable Falcon Heavy, which far exceeds the performance of a Delta IV Heavy, costs $150 million instead of more than 400 million dollars what the Delta IV Heavy costs,” added the businessman.

The Delta IV Heavy is ULA’s most powerful rocket, far above the Atlas V. It has launched some very important payloads for NASA, such as the Parker Solar Probe, the ship that touched the sun and broke all the speed records of the objects of human origin.

It was then that another Twitter user, David L., entered the conversation to clarify a fact: “The Delta IV Heavy It costs less than $400 million, no more. The launch cost of the Parker Solar Solar Probe is $389.1 million.”

Elon Musk promises to eat his hat if the Vulcan Centaur flies before 2024

This response irritated Musk, judging by the poison dart he launched in response: “That contract is from three years ago, before ULA canceled all medium versions of the Delta IV. Future missions have all the fixed costs of the Delta program. accumulated, so the price is now more than $600 million for missions contracted to launch after 2020. It’s crazy.”

The tweet unleashed a war between CEOs which I’ll summarize below, but before that, it triggered Musk’s promise to eat his hat.

Let’s remember that we are in 2018. ULA’s plans were to replace its rockets with the new Vulcan Centaur with engines from Blue Origin (Jeff Bezos’ aerospace company) starting in 2020.

When a third Twitter user pointed out these plans to Musk, the mogul responded: “Maybe that plan will work, but I’ll eat my hat with a side of mustard if that rocket launches a Homeland Security spacecraft between now and 2023.” “. Tory Bruno, CEO of ULA, responded with a terse: “wow.”

Waiting for Vulcan Centaur

He Vulcan Centaur by ULA It is intended to replace the Atlas V and Delta IV rockets, including the Delta IV Heavy, whose last flight is scheduled for March 2024.

However, the maiden flight of the Vulcan Centaur has been delayed several times since 2018. Firstly, because it took a long time for Blue Origin to deliver the first two BE-4 engines of the first stage to ULA. These engines use liquid methane instead of liquid hydrogen, and have not flown on any rockets yet: they will debut with the Vulcan and will also be used on Blue Origin’s future New Glenn rocket.

Tory Bruno and a rocket dummy in its configuration with four solid propellants

Elon Musk he has it sworn to Jeff Bezos and has been picking on ULA over engine delays until a couple of years ago. “I can send you some spare engines, just in case,” he told Bruno on one occasion. “Thank you for the offer, but I heard that your birds need quite a few to fly and I wouldn’t want you to be short,” Bruno replied, referring to the almost 40 methane engines each Starship uses.

The engines ended up arriving, but the debut of the Vulcan was delayed again due to the explosion, during ground tests, of a second stage of the rocket, called Centaur V. And later due to a hydrogen leak in the first stage.

Those problems were also behind us, and the rocket was finally ready to fly in late 2023. Its first mission, scheduled for Christmas Eve, was send the CLPS-1 mission to the Moon, the return of the United States to the lunar surface after 50 years. However, the abrupt end of a wet test forced the launch to be moved to January 8, 2024: next week.

This latest delay has prevented Musk from having to eat his hat, as he himself has taken it upon himself to remind us. But it’s not that the Vulcan Centaur hasn’t been able to launch its first National Security mission in 2023, it’s that it hasn’t flown at all.

The first Vulcan mission for the United States Air Force is scheduled for the second quarter of 2024. And whether the Pentagon authorizes it depends on its two previous missions (CLPS-1 and Dream Chaser) going well.

Against Tory Bruno and his partner Jeff Bezos

ULA is one of the historic rocket manufacturers Lockheed Martin and Boeing. It was created to provide launch services for the United States Government, especially the Pentagon and NASA, and has played a leading role in launching military and reconnaissance satellites; that is, National Security.

SpaceX has been pushing for years to compete on equal terms with ULA. The company successfully sued the United States Government so that its Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rockets could launch National Security space missionswhich they started doing in 2017. But Elon Musk continued calling ULA a monopoly.

“Boeing and Lockheed get a billion dollar annual subsidy even if they don’t launch anything. SpaceX doesn’t,” Musk tweeted incendiarily in 2017. He was referring to a unique ULA contract with the US government that requires there to always be a rocket ready for a National Security mission. The pressure must have paid off because now ULA is for sale.

Who is going to buy the rocket manufacturer? To no one’s surprise, one of the most rumored candidates is Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos’ company.

The Vulcan Centaur and the Blue Origin BE-4 engines They will end up flying, possibly next week. But the sale of ULA will mark the beginning of something new. Only time will tell if it is the definitive victory for SpaceX or a new, even more intense stage of the feud between Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos.

Joan Fontcuberta sows doubts about the origin of Vivian Maier

Joan Fontcuberta is one of the funniest, most controversial and great photographic figures that we have in Spain. He is a person who constantly plays with the viewer who has to always be very attentive to his words because we will never know if they are true. It cannot be read literally. It is very important to analyze each and every one of your words to really know what you are saying. And in a 2017 conference, which was published a week ago, it makes us doubt the existence of Vivian Maier. Is Fontcuberta forcing us to think about the reality of photography?

Joan Fontcuberta is a photographer but above all he is a thinker of the image, more than a philosopher. It has all the awards we can dream of: National Photography Award 1998, National Essay Award 2011, Hasselblad Award 2013 … I think we cannot find anyone more complex in the world of photography with the clearest ideas.

In ‘The Kiss of Judas’, a fundamental essay on his work, he questions the widespread belief that photography is evidence of reality. And that you bet without hesitation in everything that has a halo of reality without stopping to think about what we are seeing or what they are saying to us.

He has always believed that the good photographer is one who lies the truth well. And therefore you have to be very attentive to everything he says and, above all, how he says it so as not to fall into the trap. A dialogue with him can turn into a game. Look at everything he says in the conference he gave in 2017 at the Mast Foundation in Bologna and which was published this week. In the middle it talks about the figure of Vivian Maier.

Joan Fontcuberta’s XB project

The conference, which was published a week ago, begins with a warning from the author himself to the attendees advising them that they already know how they are being spent. His strategy is based on using the fake as a mechanism not to deceive, but to make a pedagogy that reveals the tricks of the deceit and that helps the viewer to react critically to the avalanche of images of today.

Tells us that we have to doubt everything and that we cannot be sure of anything in this age that we live in. Photography has been an instrument to impose certainties and these can obey dark interests. We must always doubt to be sure of the information we receive. The truth does not exist for him, the truth is a search. You always have to try to find the facts or the experiences, or simply the perceptions that we have of reality.

And from that moment delves into a self-criticism about the truth in the world of photography. And how he has created various projects that cause mistrust and force us to check the information about all the photographic discoveries that we have experienced in recent years …

Most of the projects he talks about are well known in the world of photography. And it is known that they are part of his proposal, of his intellectual games

The artist and photography

It was a project in which featured mythical artists and their relationship with photography. He organized installations in various museums where he does not present himself as an artist, but as a historian.

And he made believe that Picasso or Dalí or Miró were related to the camera. To achieve this, he exhibited works made by him with the aesthetics of those geniuses. It is noteworthy to see how he played with the viewer.

Trepat

It is a very curious story. In Lleida (Catalonia) there is the Trepat factory, of agricultural machinery. It was founded in 1914 and had to close in the crisis of the seventies. Throughout the 20th century it was present in the Spanish market. And he created a very important photographic archive of all the material he sold.

This photographic catalog followed the trends of the 20th century, as did all the companies of the time. And he just put a name and did a couple of tricks to pretend that some of those photographs were made by great authors like Man Ray. And he invented the facet of Mr. Trepat as a philanthropist who invited famous photographers to work with him …

And he does everything without lying, he only works with confusion and with the magic of language. Quite a formal discovery of an exhibition that took place at the Arles festival, in which he was artistic director …

The Invention of Photographers and Vivian Maier

And this is where the most curious thing about the conference arrives and what we have to see and observe with great attention to know if it is telling us the truth or we simply believe in everything it tells us. He loves to invent photographers and is convinced that it is very easy because we all want to believe in fantastic stories.

In minute 22 he confesses to being the creator of Vivian Maier. And he explains how he did it, the tools he used to achieve what would be one of the greatest deceptions in the world of photography. And that would make us ask ourselves many things and that the experts recognize that they had not noticed the ruse carried out by Joan Fontcuberta.

He used the story of the fortuitous find and the infinite possibilities that exist today to flesh out a non-existent piece of news. But for it to be credible he didn’t have to show up, so convinced a colleague of his from Chicago to do all the paper.

They started moving a file with the story of a dark and sinister Mary Poppins photographer who never showed her photographs … All with the intention of showing that it is very easy to build a successful author through a cultural and economic ideology …

In the conference he continues talking about other authors that he claims to have invented, such as Charles Jones, a photographer who was the gardener of an English lord. And his work anticipates the work of great masters like Edward Weston and his famous pepper. Or a photographer who attracted a lot of attention in Spain who, again, is totally invented: Ximo Berenguer.

You can watch the conference over and over again to find out if everything we have told is true. It’s from 2017, it appears now. It may be a lie, it may be a fake that Fontcuberta likes so much. But surely from this moment on we will pay more attention to all the news to be sure of reality. It does not consist of distrusting everything, but of being well informed. After watching the video, what do you think?
