Why is there no Half-Life 2 for Mac?
Kikizo interviews Valve Software co-founder Gabe Newell about the upcoming Orange Box game compilation due out in October. The anthology includes Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Portal, and Team Fortress 2 and will only be available for Windows, XBox 360, and PlayStation 3.
When asked why there weren’t any Mac versions, Newell says they’ve been trying to work with Apple for years, but Apple doesn’t have ongoing communication after initial contacts.
“…it repeats this pattern of behavior from Apple, where we meet them, they say ‘wow, the game is incredibly important, we should do something with the game.’ And so we said, “Ok, here are three things you could do to make this better,” and then they say Ok, and then we never see them again.” And the cycle repeats itself every time the staff at Apple related to these matters changes.
